The Sahara Challenge is a adventure undertaken by a few neighbours from Dedham Essex in the UK. The plan is for three people in one car to drive from the UK to Libya via France, Switzerland, Italy and Tunisia to Tripoli where they will meet up with the others who will have flown out directly from the UK.
The whole group will then visit the major roman sites of Libya and drive deep into the desert to visit the saltwater lakes and to see the cave paintings and carvings.
This is a private trip but if you are interested in doing something similar we'll publish on ths site details of our journey and advice on hotels and guides etc so you can do the same sort of thing if you dare!
If you want to join a more "organised" trip crossing the Sahara desert then have a look at the Plymouth Dakar Challenge created and run by Julian Nowill. The Plymouth Dakar Challenge (now called the Plymouth Banjul Challenge) is in its fourth year. Over 400 teams have participated and many hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised for Gambian charities. |
